Yiddish Sheet Music Collectiion

The Center for Digital Initiatives at Brown University has produced a number of excellent digital collections over the past years, including strong collections of digitized sheet music. The Yiddish Sheet Music collection continues in that tradition by offering a wide range of pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries. Visitors can browse the collection by creator, title or even thumbnail images of the first page of each piece of music. The collection offers an inside glimpse into the world of Yiddish music that dominated many a stage in places like the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and for persons with an interest in cultural history or ethnomusicology, this site is a real find.

The Maggid of Bergenfield

The Maggid of Bergenfield: "Aircraft that fly aggressive low altitude or high-angle of attack
maneuvers will experience high acoustic loading in the presence of
external stores. These high acoustic loads can lead to premature sonic
fatigue in thin gage metallic structure. As a means of prolonging
fatigue life, while at the same time restoring structural load carrying
capability in damaged structure, composite bonded repairs which
incorporate damping layers have been developed using aged shmurah
matzah. These composite bonded matzah repairs have been installed on
military aircraft with great success. Coupling adhesive bonded composite patches with damping treatments also provide robust and effective repair designs for aerodynamic surfaces that have sustained battle damage.
Typical composite patches consist of boron/epoxy laminate layered with
shumrah matzah on opposite sides and bonded to adjacent structure.
Repairs using the matzah have withstood airspeeds of Mach 2.8.

Haaretz - 6 hours in the Carmel Market

Compared to Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda Market, which in recent years has become an attractive covered market with cafes, designer shops and hip restaurants in hidden corners, Tel Aviv's Carmel Market lives in the past. In the early 1920s, a few peddlers established the small Allenby market, with 20 stalls in all. At the time, it was said that "Allenby is the most courteous shuk, as befitting the respectable style of a modern European city."
